THE TRANSITION TO PRESCHOOL…AND THE PANIC ATTACK I ALMOST HAD!

Did you parents embarrass you as a child? Showing up to book fairs? Trying to kiss you when you were trying to walk into school (and you were in your teens)? Arguing with your teacher and principal at any given opportunity? Showing up to your classroom to see how you were doing? Trying to switch classes or schools because they didn’t like how your teacher did things? I remember promising myself that I would never become that kind of mom…and for a long time, it stuck in my head as the thing that I would avoid as a parent at […]

THE ASTHMA DIAGNOSIS…AND THE HAVOC IT’S CREATING ON MY SON’S LIFE

Back in December, Micah was diagnosed with asthma…and since then, it has been wreaking havoc in the quality of his day-to-day life. For the past two months, I have been anxious, sleep-deprived, depressed, and frustrated all boxed in together in one. I honestly think it would be a little easier if he was a bit older, but with him only being 2, he doesn’t understand that he has to take it easy sometimes and it makes it that much more difficult for me to manage and monitor it. Micah started off just with a really bad cough. I assumed it […]

CAN SOMEONE REALLY LOVE ME FOR ME?

As I was driving into work this morning, I was listening to my Spotify playlist (btw I love Spotify) and All of Me by John Legend starting playing. I listened to the words of this beautiful song that John Legend wrote for his beautiful wife, Chrissy Teigen. Now, I know that they have had some tumultuous times – every couple does at some point – but to write a song saying that you love all of a person is awe-inspiring to me. I do believe that it is possible to find that true person for you that will love everything about […]

9 TIPS FOR A BETTER RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR BABY DADDY

Trying to be civil around my son’s father is possibly the single most difficult thing that I’ve had to do – aside from giving birth and raising my son as a single mom. Ok, so it’s not the single most difficult thing that I’ve done, but it ranks really high. But in the past year, I have built a better relationship with my son’s father and just by using these 9 tips! But realize, this is more for those that are attempting to have a better relationship for the sake of the children. If you’re trying to get back together […]

NOT HAVING YOUR CHILD DURING THE HOLIDAYS? 5 TIPS TO HELP YOU THROUGH IT!

Can you believe that it’s already November? Where did the year go? It dawned on me that the this year’s holidays will be a little bit different that last year’s, especially with the new custody arrangement in place. Micah will be spending Thanksgiving and the day after at his father’s house this year.  It will be incredibly difficult for me to deal with the absence of my son during this holiday focused on family and togetherness.  Additionally, he will be with me on Christmas Eve and most of Christmas Day, but will be headed to his father Christmas afternoon. I […]

Behind the Smile: The Untold Story

Since I started this blog, I’ve been debating whether or not to share this story…the story that lead me to this place in my life.  It has helped me become the person who I am today, but sometimes too much truth and seriousness is not a good idea, especially not for me.   I laugh and I joke about the relationship with Micah’s Daddy now because I’ve truly grown up from the experience…but sometimes it haunts me just as a realization of what was and a reminder of my goal to continue moving forward no matter what.   A little over a year later, […]

HOW TO DEAL WITH YOUR BABY DADDY

In a perfect world, single moms would not be single moms.  At least I wouldn’t be one…it’s exhausting work! I am a proud single mom but I won’t sit here and pretend like I don’t need any help.  However, that is not the reality of the world.  Many women step into being single moms of their own choice and others have no choice; they have to do what’s in the best interest of the child. I really hate that term, though…baby daddy.  Someone who wanted to be really cute and creative came up with this term, but honestly Micah’s Daddy is known as […]

Someone to Love Me: A Poem to My Newborn Son

I just found a poem that I wrote to Micah when he was first born.   We were in the hospital and I was laying on the bed watching him sleep in his bed.  It inspired me to write this poem to him.  I wrote it on a tiny piece of paper that I had next to the bed.  Shortly thereafter, I fell asleep and never found that piece of paper again. I almost thought that it was lost forever.  I’m so happy to have found it. Now I can share it with you… Someone to Love Me: A Poem to My Newborn Son Every day […]
