How to Be a Super Single Mom

You are a single parent and find that daily life can be a struggle when everything is on your shoulders. There are so many things that need to be done and there is barely time in the day to complete everything. But despite all that stress, you can still be your kids’ favorite superhero with a few simple steps.

Don’t Be a Perfectionist

Believe it or not, your lawn does not have to be perfectly manicured, the beds don’t always have to be made, and meals don’t have to be cooked from scratch. Do what absolutely needs to be done, and after that, just do the best you can to keep your life simple and orderly. Prioritize the things on your to-do list and don’t be afraid to put your needs on that list!

Assuming all of the responsibilities of running a household can really stress a single mother out. Enlist the assistance of all of your children to perform basic chores such as washing dishes, taking out the trash, cutting the grass, and even cooking simple meals. Everyone will feel that they are part of a team, and you will have a load lifted from your shoulders.

Take Care of Yourself

We’ve all heard the expression, “If Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.” If you don’t feel good about yourself, how can you be effective at taking care of your family? Take the time to pamper yourself with reading your favorite novel, getting a manicure, or exercising at a local class with friends. Find a hobby that you can immerse yourself in that relaxes you and provides some type of personal fulfillment.

Tie Up Loose Ends

What better way to care for yourself than by making sure all of your legal matters concerning divorce and custody are in order. If you’ve got professionals like a Park City lawyer helping with your divorce, your stress and anxiety levels can decrease drastically. Taking that load off your shoulders will give you the peace of mind to relax and enjoy life to the fullest.

Make it Fun!

Make a game out of cleaning and maintenance. For example, if you and your children are working on the yard, have a contest to see who can pile up the biggest pile of leaves and debris. Roll the dice to see who is going to wash, dry, and put away all of the dinner dishes. Make every effort to make each and every moment happy and serene.

As you can see, being a single mother does not have to be a huge challenge. Following these tips and suggestions will help you be the star that your youngsters believe you are. You won’t always be perfect, but your love for your children will always shine through.

  1. This is a pretty awesome article. Great tips, especially “Taking Care of Yourself”. As a mom of a 7 year old little boy and a million other endeavors on my plate, it can be challenging to stop and smell the roses even. I’m really putting more effort into carving out “me time” a little more often.

    • It is very hard to focus on yourself, when you have so much on your plate…but it is so important to do! In order to be at your best, you have to find time to treat yourself. When I am able to carve some “me time”, I take full advantage of it!

  2. Great advice for single moms 🙂 The hardest thing is to take care of yourself, because you spend all day for your baby
