Doesn’t this sound like a great app already??!! It does to me!!
Here are some of the things that Micah and I just love about this app:
1. It’s a mobile app!
Micah loves playing with my cellular phone and he has two tablets (he got the Nabi Jr for Christmas, but it wasn’t cutting it. We needed an Android tablet too!), and I love finding some great apps for him to enjoy, instead of always playing the adult games. On my phone, I have set up Kids Mode that allows Micah to only play the games and apps that I have set up for him. FarFaria is one of his favorite apps! And since it’s an app, he can read his books on up to 5 devices!
2. All of the books are appropriate for all ages.
It’s rare to find an app that has books that are all age-appropriate, fun, and educational. I have scanned FarFaria’s books and even the books for 6 year-olds are appropriate for Micah — because they are simple, fun and educational. I have no problem leaving Micah to his devices with this app because I feel confident that it is appropriate for him. It’s also simple for him to navigate through the various books available to him.
3. The map-like feature to find books is amazing.
Micah loves maps – I think it is from an episode of Backyardigans he watched a few weeks ago. He will take my receipts and go through them trying to find the treasure – the imagination on this little boy surprises me sometimes. FarFaria’s set-up of a map to find books fits in perfectly with his newly found appreciation of maps.
Some of the locations include “Animal Kingdom”, “Preschool Playground”, “Sing Along City”. Our personal favorite is Preschool Playground because it reinforces a lot of the stories and skills that he’s learning at home and at school.
4. The books can be read to you.
One of the things that I really enjoy about this app is that the books can be read to you. You have the option to choose auto-play, read to me, or read myself. Micah enjoys the read me option, and once he reads it a few times – he tries to read it himself. It’s great to see his vocabulary grow! With the read me option, Micah just has to swipe the screen to turn the page – it makes sure that he’s still engaged!
5. Bedtime reading is now a cinch!
There are many times where I drift off to sleep before Micah even starts yawning. Sometimes it just can’t be helped! Micah lays right next to me with his tablet and he will read along with his books on FarFaria. Although I do always read at least 5 books with Micah before we go to sleep, he usually wants more. Honestly, I could read 10 books and it wouldn’t be enough! With FarFaria, he can still enjoy his books even after I drift off to sleep. And honestly, even if I am awake (which happens more often that not), it’s great to have someone read to me for a change. Reading so many books tends to get exhausting…and quick (I love doing it though!) Having the books read to us helps us to still enjoy story time, and keep Micah growing and learning!
Micah and I are loving FarFaria, and just reviewing this product has made us sign up for the monthly subscription. It’s definitely a great way to add some spice to our reading!
