Tons of Fun with Barefoot Books!!

Family Fun: Picking Pumpkins in the Patch
Family Fun: The Afternoon in Toys-R-Us
Look what we got in the mail this weekend —
some books from my Barefoot Books Ambassador,
  1. Creepy Crawly Calypso
Jump and jive from one to ten with a boisterous band of bugs in this selection that introduces creepy crawlies and calypso instruments. After the rhyming story, there are fascinating facts about the insects and calypso bands, as well as a simple music score.
  2. Counting Cockatoos
Count to twelve with help from tumbling tigers, winking owls and more, while you search for the two cockatoos hidden on every page. This clever counting adventure makes the perfect gift when paired with Alligator Alphabet.
  3. Knick Knack Paddy Whack
Sing along with this rollicking take on a traditional tune that introduces instruments and counts from one to ten. There are educational notes about instrument families as well as a simple music score at the end.
Micah instantly fell in love with Counting Cockatoos.  He grabbed for it first and read through it very quickly on his own, counting the entire way. I hadn’t realized it until now, but Micah recognizes his numbers when he sees it.  He would count each animal, then when he realized how many of them they are, he would point to the number and shout it out loud.  He had a full rhythm to his counting, and I’m so enthused to have been a part of this new adventure.
We also had tons of fun with Creepy Crawly Calypso and Knick Knack Paddy Whack.  There are CDs attached to each of these books, where you can listen to the CD while reading through and singing along with the book.
We did read the book, but not before we danced around the living room happily.  I have rarely seen CDs with children’s books and even fewer that I’ve actually enjoyed.
We absolutely loved the music! And the animations and easy-to-follow lyrics made it that much more enjoyable!  The calypso music in Creepy Crawly Calypso was very catchy and we played the CD at least 3 times.  It’s very cute!Music has always been a great way to get Micah engaged in reading and learning, so it was great to see that we had 2 books that allowed us to have some fun while reading.

I have enjoyed these books with Micah and I look forward to reading, dancing, and singing with them again tomorrow night!
